Injectable Fillers

Dermal fillers refer to a group of products that are injected into the soft tissue layers of the face. The purpose of this treatment is to improve facial contour and restore a youthful facial balance. All fillers are designed to replace volume in areas of the face where aging and/or weight loss has resulted in volume loss. In addition, they can provide structure and support to the underlying tissues. This results in restoration and enhancement of facial features.

Ideal Candidates

The best candidates for injectable fillers are just becoming concerned about the signs of aging, yet they aren’t quite ready to commit to facial cosmetic surgery. Other good candidates for injectable fillers are those who desire added fullness to accentuate areas of the face, such as the lips or the cheekbone area. Fillers also may be a good “touch-up” option for women and men who have already had a surgical procedure.

What to Expect

We created a space in the office completely dedicated to injectable therapy. During your visit, a detailed consultation will be done to develop a treatment plan that’s uniquely designed for your goals. A treatment usually takes less than an hour, depending on the areas treated. The injectable fillers are inserted with a very fine needle into the area to be treated. Most patients start with a topical numbing cream applied to their skin prior to treatment. All of the fillers are mixed with lidocaine for added comfort.

Where can it be used?

The most common areas for treatment are:

  • Nasolabial Folds (“parenthesis” lines between the nose and corner of the mouth)
  • Lips and lines above the lip
  • Fine to severe lines and wrinkles almost anywhere on the face
  • Cheeks, hollows under the eyes, and temples
  • Jaw line (to camouflage jowl formation)

Filler Choices

JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC

JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC is a gel filler formulated with the highest concentration of hyaluronic acid and infused with lidocaine for added comfort. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance that our body produces but that diminishes with age. It has a tremendous ability to bind with water. When it is injected, it instantly replaces lost volume to smooth wrinkles and folds and to provide more youthful contours. One treatment may last up to a year. There are two formulations available in our office: JUVÉDERM®XC Ultra, formulated for versatility and contouring, and JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC, a more robust formulation for correcting deeper wrinkles and folds.

VOLUMA™

JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA™ XC injectable gel is the first and only FDA-approved filler that can instantly add volume to the cheek area. It gives you a subtle lift, helping to restore contour and a more youthful profile, for up to 2 years. This treatment can be performed for anyone age 21 and older.

VOLBELLA®

JUVÉDERM® VOLBELLA® with Lidocaine is the latest advancement in the Juvéderm® range of facial fillers, developed specifically for your lips and mouth area. It is a smooth gel that is injected by your physician, using an ultra-fine needle. It has been specifically developed as a smooth gel to give a soft, natural feel. The gel fills in lip lines and wrinkles while the hyaluronic acid within attracts and retains moisture, so results can last up to a year.

Cost

The cost of treatment depends on the amount of injectable filler needed to correct the desired areas. Injectable fillers may be your only treatment or just one component of a more comprehensive treatment plan to help you look younger and more refreshed. Fillers are frequently combined with Botox treatment designed to combat dynamic wrinkles. Additionally, skin resurfacing treatments such as microdermabrasion, chemical peels, or laser resurfacing can be added to help achieve an all-over youthful appearance. After a consultation, with Jackie Duffy, MSN, RN, our aesthetic injector, we will be able to determine the cost based on what you are looking to achieve.

Recovery

The results of your treatment will be immediate, and there is no significant downtime associated with injectable fillers. You should expect some redness and mild swelling that usually subsides in a day. Bruising may occur in some individuals, but it is typically mild and can be covered with makeup. If you are worried about bruising, we will advise you to stop taking any blood-thinning agents, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or fish oils, prior to your visit. You should give the injections time to settle; therefore, avoid massaging or rubbing your face for the first 24 hours after your treatment.

Results

Today’s injectable fillers deliver instant results that may last up to a year or even 2, depending on the type of filler used. The results can be amazing yet subtle enough that no one will even have to know.
