BOTOX®

BOTOX® Cosmetic is the first and only FDA-approved product to temporarily improve both moderate to severe frown lines between the brows and crow’s feet, lines around the sides of the eyes. Botox injections are the #1 non-surgical cosmetic treatment in the world. Since 2002, there has been a 400% increase in the number of patients receiving Botox treatments.

How does BOTOX® Cosmetic work?

Over time, stress, sun, and life in general cause all of us to utilize the muscles of the face. Ultimately, the repeated muscle contractions from frowning and squinting over the years will lead to wrinkling. These wrinkles typically present themselves on the forehead, between the eyes, on the bridge of the nose, and around the outer part of the eyes (crow’s feet area). BOTOX® can be used to temporarily reduce muscle activity and the wrinkles that they cause.

Ideal Candidates

When you look in the mirror, you might think that you appear tired, worried, or even angry because of visible lines and wrinkles on your forehead or between your eyebrows. Frequently, there may be a disconnect between the way one is feeling on the inside and how he or she looks or is perceived by others. Some patients may want to improve lines and wrinkles that have existed for years, while others may simply want to preserve their youthful appearance. The best candidates for BOTOX® Cosmetic are both men and women who are starting to show signs of periorbital aging but aren’t ready to commit to cosmetic surgery just yet.

Cost

BOTOX® is sold by the unit. The total cost will be based on how many units are needed to treat the wrinkles that bother you. After a consultation, Dr. Mancoll or Erin Dietel, PA-C, aesthetic injector, will be able to determine how much Botox it will take to get the best results. When it comes to treating wrinkles, Botox is considered a cosmetic procedure and therefore is not covered by insurance.

Potential Risks

If done properly, complications are uncommon, and Botox is very safe to use. Mild bruising, swelling, and discomfort can occur. If the Botox migrates from where it is injected, drooping of the upper eyelid can occur. Care must also be taken when injecting patients with heavy foreheads to prevent upper-eyelid hooding once the forehead muscles relax.

Recovery

All normal activities may resume after about 4 hours. If bruising were to occur, it usually resolves in 5 to 7 days. Typically, it takes between 5 and 8 days for the effects of the Botox to be seen.

Results

The results speak for themselves. When you see the results, it becomes clear why Botox has become the #1 non-surgical cosmetic procedure.
