Deep Plane Neck Lift

A slim, contoured neck is an eternal sign of grace and beauty. Many factors contribute to the look of the neck, including the prominence of the chin, the amount of fat underneath it, and the laxity of the skin around it. For patients who are unhappy with the look of their neck, a deep plane neck lift can offer beautiful, natural-looking results

Why a Deep Plane Neck Lift?

Fullness under the chin or along the jawline often isn’t just loose skin—it is caused by deep fat excess, prominent submandibular glands, and muscle bands beneath the neck muscle (the platysma). In a deep plane neck lift, the surgeon goes underneath this muscle layer to sculpt away the deep bulk directly. The platysma muscle is then repositioned like a supportive hammock, carving out a sharp, elegant angle between your chin and neck. The hammock is more efficient as the bulk underneath it has been decreased; this is one of the biggest benefits of deep neck surgery. A deep plane neck lift is often combined with a deep plane facelift. The result is not a stretched version of your face, but a rested, natural restoration that lets you age forward gracefully for 10 to 15 years or more.

Mancoll Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery offers deep plane neck lift surgery performed by board-certified, and aesthetic fellowship-trained plastic surgeon, Dr. Gianfranco Frojo. With extensive training and experience in facial aesthetic surgery, Dr. Frojo is dedicated to achieving natural-looking, refined results for his patients.

Ideal Candidates

The best candidates for a deep plane neck lift are in good physical and emotional health and have realistic expectations about what the procedure can achieve.

A deep plane neck lift may be appropriate for individuals looking to address common signs of facial aging, including:

  • Extra skin and fat under the chin
  • Poor contrast between the neck and the lower portion of the face
  • An obtuse angle between the neck and the chin

Procedure

Dr. Frojo performs deep plane neck lift procedures on an outpatient basis under deep sedation or general anesthesia. Deep plane neck lifts are often performed in conjunction with a deep plane facelift, but for some patients, the upper portion of the face is not a concern. When performed on its own, a deep plane neck lift typically takes approximately 2 hours.

Cost

There are several factors that determine the total cost of a neck lift surgery, including:

  • Facility fees
  • Anesthesia fees
  • Surgical fees
  • Prescriptions for medication

Even for patients who have lost a lot of weight, neck lift procedures are typically considered cosmetic procedures and therefore not covered by insurance. Feel free to contact the surgical coordinator for pricing and to request more information about this or other cosmetic procedures.

Potential Risks and Complications

As with any surgical procedure, there are certain risks associated with a deep plane neck lift, such as scars, infection, bleeding, asymmetries, postoperative discomfort, and adverse reaction to anesthesia. Although significant complications are uncommon, patients should understand that any surgery, performed for any reason, has risks and should not be taken lightly.

During your consultation and pre-operative appointment, Dr. Frojo will take the time to thoroughly explain your procedure, discuss potential risks, and answer any questions you may have so you can feel confident and well-informed about your decision.

Recovery

Once surgery is complete, bandages will be applied to the incisions to minimize swelling. Ice packs and prescribed medication will be used to alleviate any pain or discomfort that exists during recovery. Typically, patients return to work after about a week, but strenuous exercise and activity should be avoided for 4 to 6 weeks.

Results

The results of a deep plane neck lift will be immediately apparent after surgery, but due to swelling and possible bruising, it may months to see the complete results.
